Living an “Amen” Life
Not just agreeing with God when things are easy, but surrendering even when it’s hard.
We say Amen all the time. At the end of prayers, in church, sometimes even in conversations when we strongly agree with something. But have you ever really thought about what Amen means?
In Hebrew, אָמֵן (Amen) comes from a root that means firm, faithful, and trustworthy. It’s not just a polite way to end a prayer—it’s a declaration: “I believe this is true. I’m standing on it.”
That’s why Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 1:20:
“For no matter how many promises God has made, they are ‘Yes’ in Christ. And so through him the ‘Amen’ (Ἀμὴν) is spoken by us to the glory of God.”
In other words, every promise God has made finds its fulfillment in Jesus. And when we say Amen, we’re not just signing off—we’re responding to His faithfulness.
More Than a Word
A few years ago, I was praying with someone who was going through a really tough season—one setback after another, like life just wouldn’t let up. When we finished praying, they hesitated before saying Amen. Then, with a deep sigh, they whispered, “I want to believe it, but I’m struggling.”
Maybe you’ve been there too. It’s easy to say Amen when life is good, but what about when:
• The job offer doesn’t come?
• The healing doesn’t happen?
• The waiting seems endless?
That’s when Amen becomes more than a word—it becomes an act of trust.
Think about Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane. He prayed, “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done” (Luke 22:42). That’s an Amen moment. Not just agreeing with God when things are easy, but surrendering even when it’s hard.
A Challenge for Today
What if today, we didn’t just say Amen but actually lived Amen?
• What if instead of worrying, we chose to trust God’s promises?
• Instead of doubting, we declared His truth over our lives?
• Instead of fear, we stepped forward in faith?
So, take a moment and ask yourself:
• Where in my life do I need to trust God more deeply?
• Am I just saying Amen, or am I truly believing it?
• How can I live a life that proclaims, “God is faithful, and I stand on that truth”?
Whatever you’re facing today, know this:
God is still faithful. His promises still stand. And your Amen still matters.
Amen,
Daniel
